A Note From Bannerman...
"Hello everyone. We have a gig! Do join us on Saturday night at
the salubrious Golden Dawn - Tavern Of Power
(Ponsonby, Auckland).
Our last show there was for the album release for Dearly
Departed and it was awesome. A repeat performance is certainly a
possibility.
On Saturday we'll be without guitarist Matt Ledingham, who
has inexplicably moved to Melbourne and left us wandering around morbidly at
practice.
So I'll be wielding one of those double necked guitars and Finn will be
grafting an extra hand to his elbow - probably worth the $5 admission
alone.
This is going to be our last show for a few months as Cass is off to Europe
with Tiny Ruins and Finn and I with Batucada Sound
Machine.
The plan is to be back on the live scene towards the end of the year with a
new six piece band and new material. Hot damn!
Hope some of you can make it along.
Thanks
Richie"

Back Up the Truck
SBTRKT out and about on CD and LP, yeah we know, released last year, but still worrying our turntable. Very much liking the suitably unsettling video for Hold On.
Alabama Shakes 'Boys and Girls', the debut album out now on CD and LP via Rough Trade. Favourite Youtube comment on this clip: "She looks like a middle school teacher and sings like SATAN. Holy crap is this good."
Indeed.

Arc of Ascent - The Higher Key
So love these guys. Their new album The Higher Key is out now.
"The beauty of this band is the slugging grace they have to their unique sound. It's power music.
Search for Liberation morphs between tranquility and wailing pestilence, the lurch of Redemption is bracing and brutal, and nine-minute finale Through the Rays of Infinity plays out like a ritualistic slaying."

Soon Come: Mark Lanegan Band
Well, we've reluctantly put down our beers and de-camped from the Kings Arms - for a few days at least - after propping up the bar this past week at Boris, Dead Meadow, Pink Mountaintops, Arc of Ascent, Wooden Shjips and Doug Jerebine. But before the serious post-show depression kicks in, best start looking forward, eh.
On the calendar: Mark Lanegan Band plays the Powerstation, Auckland, on Wednesday 18 April. This concert follows the release of the superb new album Blues Funeral.
